Why We Love Westtown

Fire Circles

What's more fun then a bonfire in the woods? Late night storytelling, acoustic music, and roasting marshmallows with your best friends are favorite weekend activities.

KOBs

Kindness Of Bearer. Want to get a message to your best friend after on-dorm time? Passing notes is not just a leisure activity but an art form at Westtown School. Writing, folding and sending KOBs is a long standing tradition of passing messages between the Girls' and Boys' Ends of the House.

Patterson Cup

Beat George! Beat George! Beat George! This is the battle cry of eager fans as they line the sidelines to cheer on their favorite teams against our main rival, George School. The Patterson Cup is awarded to the school that earns the most points from head-to-head victories in athletic contests.

Collection

Westtown's version of Homeroom or Assembly. This is how Westtown students start their day:

"Today is Wednesday, October 17, 2007. In the news today, NASA's senior managers clear space shuttle Discovery for liftoff October 23 and the Cleveland Indians defeated the Boston Red Sox to take a 2-1 lead in the ALCS. The weather for today is a sunny 75.

Congratulations to Girls' and Boys' Soccer Teams for their wins over Friends' Central yesterday. Way to go Girls' Field Hockey for a big overtime win against ANC!"

Community Sharing

Community Sharing is an opportunity for Westtown students and teachers to showcase their gifts and talents to the Community. Recent Community Sharing has included:

  • T. Kevin singing and playing an acoustic guitar version of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" during Girls' Collection.
  • Freshmen Joy Miekle performing an original song during Joint Collection accompanied by Senior Anna Spackman on piano.
  • Sophomore Nickiesha Stevens reciting an original poem at Wednesday night Communtiy Dinner.

The Moose!

They're Big, Bad, and Mean. Don't mess with the Moose!

Advisor Dinners

A home-cooked meal at your advisor's house is almost as good as grandma used to make.

The South Lawn

In the fall and spring, the South Lawn is the place to see and be seen. Ultimate Frisbee, midnight capture-the-flag, hanging hammocks, and school picnics are just some of the activities that happen here.

Late-night movies on Main Hall

Who wants to watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Meet me in Main Hall Room 5! We'll set up the big screen and invite all our friends. Are you in….Bueller, Bueller?

Sky-Beds

It might not be a New York loft, but sky-beds look cool and create extra floor space for a futon or your favorite bean bag chair.

Legacies

These fun, goofy—but sometimes meaningful—honors are passed down each year from the Senior Class to some of the rising underclassmen.

Ropes Course

"Spotter ready?"
"Ready!"
"Climbing."
"Climb away!"

Mini-Farm

Zucchini, garlic, snow peas, fava beans, raspberries, lettuce, potatoes, carrots, strawberries, cabbage and lots more are planted, harvested and eaten by our students in the Mini-Farm.

Senior Projects

"What are you doing for Senior Projects?"
"I'm going to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to help with Hurricane Katrina Relief. How 'bout you?"
"I'm still working on my proposal, but I'm either going to India or to Ghana."
"This is going to be the experience of a lifetime!"

Clubs

"Westtown has plenty of clubs. This weekend the Fashion Club will be hosting a Run-way Fashion Show featuring must-haves for spring. The Gaming Club would like to invite all interested parties to the DSL for the unveiling of Halo 3. Finally, Film Club will be shooting scenes for their soon-to-be released short film entitled Westtown is the Coolest School EVER!."

Step Team

Quite possibly the coolest thing you'll ever see. Our Step Team brings down the house whenever they perform.

Giant Chair

How many kids does it take to fill up a 10-foot Adirondack chair? By our calculations, about 27 Westtown students.

Campus Dogs

May we introduce the campus dogs: Lola, Utah, Deacon, Rusty, Nora, Deedee, Galean, Io and Sparky.
