Westtown Aquatic Piranhas
Westtown Aquatics (WAP-MA) is a school owned, coached directed, parent volunteer supported USA Swimming program. As part of USA Swimming, we compete under the Middle Atlantic (MA) Local Swimming Committee's (LSC) governance. The fall/winter short course season generally runs from September to April. The spring/summer long course season generally runs from May to August. All swimmers have the opportunity to compete in several Middle Atlantic sanctioned swim meets and open water competitions throughout the year.
The team is celebrating its' 12th season in 2008-2009.
With a high emphasis on stroke technique and conditioning, the swimmers benefit from a staff of experienced coaches, most with college swimming backgrounds and many have competed on the national and international level. Our swimmers have qualified and competed in Junior Olympics, Zone All-Stars and Junior Nationals swim meets.
The team enjoys use of the school's expansive facilities, such as the pristine, six lane, 25 meter pool with a ten station Total Gym circuit on deck and a state of the art Colorado timing "System 6". In 2007, phase one of the $12.5 million Athletic Facility Initiative was completed. Improvements to the pool area included the addition of six large windows overlooking the beautiful Westtown campus and a substantially enlarged pool lobby area for the convenience of parents. During practice parents also have access to the more comfortable and updated "Belfry" just steps from the pool entry, with its' fire place, flat screen TV, couches, tables and snack bar. In addition, adults have the option of buying the new health club membership now available, which will allow use of the athletic facility (limitations apply-call for details). Parking is also conveniently located right next to the pool.
The new Athletic Center boasts four multi-use courts, an indoor track, a state of the art fitness center for endurance, resistance and cable work, a separate varsity free-weight room and conveniently located classrooms for team and coaches meetings. The 600 acre campus also includes numerous athletic fields, a newly surfaced outdoor track, a beautiful 3.2 miles lakeside cross country trail, as well as a ropes course for cardio and endurance training. All of these facilities are used by our dedicated dry-land coaching staff on a regular basis.
Social events included a Westtown Lake family canoe partying the fall and spring, mid season pizza parties, bowling night, pool parties, Stadium Grille night, dive-in movies, holiday party and year end celebration and awards banquet.
The coaching staff includes Head Coach & Aquatics Director, John Eife, Assistant Coaches Danny Reichert, George Schaab, Jessica Sebedra, Bobby Struble, Kim Norsoph and Kristen Winslow. The Dry-land Coach and Assistant Aquatics Director is Toni Hamilton.
