Admission

At Westtown, we like to begin the conversation with these and other big questions — because investing in an independent school education is an important decision. We invite you to explore these questions with us and why a Westtown education might be right for your family by letting our Admission team show you more!

How do I start the application process?

The process varies for each division, but each shares the steps below. Learn more about applying to PreK-8th Grade here and applying to Upper School here.

INQUIRE

The application process consists of inquiring, visiting campus, and applying for admission.

Take the first step by filling out our short inquiry form to get in contact with our admission team.

Application deadlines for Upper School (Grades 9-12) are December 1 (for day students) and January 15 (for boarding students). The deadline for Lower and Middle School (Grades PreK-8) is December 1. Applications will be accepted after the deadlines, and will be considered if space is available.

Is a Westtown education affordable?

Westtown provides an inclusive and accessible education for families of all income levels. We recognize that financial circumstances can vary widely and strive to create a fair and equitable process. To help ensure equity and consistency, Westtown uses a third party tool that can factor in varied and complex financial circumstances.  Income is the primary driver, but net assets, and financial obligations such as other children in tuition-charging schools and college are also considered. This comprehensive approach assures that a comprehensive picture of a family's situation informs the review of the financial aid application

A Quaker school is an institution that bases its educational approach on the values of The Religious Society of Friends, or Quakers. They are rooted in the principles of Quakerism, which include the fundamental belief that there is that of God in every person, and in the tenets of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship.

While Quakerism informs and fuels our approach to education, we are not exclusively attended by Quaker students or staff. We welcome students and staff from all religious, cultural, and philosophical backgrounds.

  • Westtown School has three divisions: Lower School (PreK to 5th grade), Middle School (6th to 8th grade), and Upper School (9th to 12th grade).
  • To enroll in PreK, students must be 4 years old at the start of school and fully potty trained.
  • Westtown does not offer a Postgraduate (IB) program.

Students who enroll in 7th grade or earlier have the option to remain day students through 12th grade (though many elect to board at some point in high school). Students entering as day students in 8th-10th grade are required to board in 11th and 12th grade.

Westtown is deeply committed to making our program financially feasible for families and to attracting talented, well-qualified students, regardless of their families’ economic circumstances. Each year, we provide over $11 million in merit and need-based financial aid, which applies to 48.4% of our student body. We also offer Merit Scholarships and scholarships for Quaker boarding students.

13 local school districts offer free transportation to Westtown. Westtown School also provides a transportation service for those students who do not reside in a school district that provides busing or who live within a district and prefer Westtown’s service. There is an additional fee to use Westtown School’s transportation services. And, of course, many parents drive their children to school and many elect to carpool.

Get to know our Lead Student Ambassadors

Our team of over 25 student ambassadors provides a candid student-perspective of Upper School at Westtown and helps visitors feel comfortable and welcome on campus. You may meet them on Upper School tours, panels, Class Day Visits, Open Houses, Revisit days, Virtual Tours, and more!

Aidan E.

Hey guys my name is Aidan and I am a senior here at Westtown School. I currently live in West Chester PA, but I am from Marblehead MA. I am a prefect on the E2 dorm, and I have boarded for four years. At Westtown, I play baseball, basketball, and soccer, and have enjoyed the community that sports at Westtown bring me! My favorite class has been Website Development because I learned how websites are built and I could create a real product. All of my teachers, advisors, and peers have allowed me to excel at Westtown!

Maddie M-B.

Hello everyone! My name is Maddie and I am a current senior! I am from Philadelphia, PA. I have been attending Westtown as a residential student since my freshman year. I am very active in performing arts at Westtown. I’ve been in a variety of productions as both an actor and a stage manager. I am also currently a member of Westtown’s Jazz Ensemble as a vocalist and am participating in a Multidisciplinary Art Deep Dive program. I am also a student leader and currently am a Work Program Head, Ambassador Head, Student Representative on Discipline Council, and swim manager. In the past, I have also been a W3 Lead Prefect, an Orientation Leader, and a BIPOC Camp Mentor. What I love most about Westtown are the many opportunities given to you in many different ways. From being at Westtown I have had the opportunity to grow as a student by being able to challenge myself in many different subjects and to discover many new interests. I have also been given the opportunity to connect with a variety of students from many different backgrounds and meet my closest friends.

Alana T.

Hi! My name is Alana. I’m a senior at Westtown and have been attending Westtown since 9th grade. I am from Unionville, PA, and have been boarding since 10th grade. I am an Ambassador Head, varsity field hockey captain, W2 prefect, SASH member, and member of the varsity lacrosse team. My favorite thing about Westtown is living with my friends and being a part of the tight-knit community!

Joey B.

Hi, I'm Joey! I am currently a Junior and have been at Westtown since second grade. I am a day student, and live just down the road from the school. During my time at Westtown, I have developed a strong passion for leadership. Through opportunities provided by the school, I have been able to develop and sharpen my leadership skills. I currently serve as a Work Program Head, Ambassador Head, Grill Club Head, and also as a member of the on-campus student mental health group, Student Advocates for Student Health (SASH). Through SASH, I have been trained as a peer counselor. In addition to these activities, I play varsity lacrosse. In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Thankfully, Westtown provides me with a great fourteen-acre lake to dial in my skills and catch big fish!

Shawn X.

Hi everyone! I’m Shawn, an international student from China. I’ve been at Westtown since freshman year, which is also when I started my boarding school journey. I’m the varsity captain for both the cross country and rock climbing teams. I care deeply about the Westtown community, which is why I’m honored to serve as the International Student Organization Head and an E2 Lead Prefect. Outside of those roles, I enjoy spending time in the little Physics and Philosophy club I founded. What I love most about Westtown is the family-like atmosphere—it really makes the community special.

Meredith S.

Hi, everyone! My name is Meredith and I am a senior from Malvern, PA. This is my eighth year here at Westtown and I am a day student. Alongside being an Ambassador Head, I am a senior Work Program Hhead, steering committee member, and I ride horses competitively all year long. My favorite things about Westtown are the academic offerings and welcoming community! I am so grateful to have started in Lower School and I am always so happy to be a student here. Go, ’Town!!
